It’s the biggest problem in the BDSM community. How the heck do you wear your collar to work without getting fired, or to the grocery store without getting harassed. Surprisingly, the solution is really very simple.
Hide it in plain sight!
Going collared 24/7 without losing your job or getting persecuted by the vanilla world is surprisingly easy, and it all starts with CHOOSING the type of collar that fits your beautifully unique life. A 24/7 day collar should blend in with your everyday environment, not stick out like a sore thumb. Collar that look like vanilla necklaces, beautifully designed statement pieces, and one of a kind neck chains all help you to hide in plain sight while still proclaiming your unique lifestyle to the right people.
Thick banded, leather or PVC collars are OUT.
Sorry leather lovers.
Lets face it, nothing screams BDSM louder than walking into a room wearing what appears to be either a dog collar, or part of a latex cat suit.
Instead, opt for a collar that less conspicuous. The more a collar looks like a necklace, the less likely it will give you away.
Not to mention, Leather and PVC 24/7 collars are hard to keep clean, can promote skin irritation when worn tight, don’t stand up to showers well, and tend to degrade rather quickly.
Instead, choose a collar that is made from a durable metal. Metals such as Stainless Steel, Sterling Silver, Niobium, Titanium, or even Gold. Aluminum is also a choice, though if you plan to tug on your collar this metal probably isn’t the best option. Just remember, your collar should look more like high fashion than high profile.
Adding stones, beads, crystal, and gems to your collar can further help to camouflage it for the ladies, and for men going super simple helps as well.
Oh? rings…. While fun to tug on, and certainly sexy, O rings done wrong will quickly raise eyebrows of the vanilla crowd. Done right, however, they can be an amazing asset to hiding your collar in plain site. So if you have to have the O ring, make sure it is well placed on your collar and adds to the overall camouflage as a eye catching element, and not an eyebrow raising mistake.
A rainbow of colors. Consider what you will be wearing with your collar. Does your wardrobe have mostly 1 color (mine is a TON of blue), or do you mix it up a lot. If you collar is going to have color it in, make sure to choose something complimentary to your wardrobe. When in doubt, stick to neutral collars for every day wear.
Locks of love? For some couples (or trifectas, households, etc), Locks are a major part of the collaring experience. For these folks, without the lock it’s just a pretty piece of jewelry. So if you fall into that camp, and you HAVE to have the lock, choose it wisely especially if the lock will be in front. Look for a lock that resembles a pendant, over bulkier shackle style padlocks. Or for guys, get a lock that is simple.
If you are wearing the lock at the back, consider the size of the lock verses the weight of the collar. No one (trust me, no one) wants the distraction having to pull down the front of an ill balanced collar every 15 minutes.
Another way you can hide a lock to to have it engraved. Adding a simple image or inscribing a name not only makes it highly personal and unique, it also instantly turns any lock from a vanilla nightmare to a sweet symbol of your fairy tale romance. D’awwww.
